In March 2022, the Lone Soldier Memorial in Gawler South suffered significant vandalism when the soldier's arm and rifle were broken off. This was not the first such incident; similar acts had occurred in the past. The memorial, unveiled in 1921, commemorates the World War I service and sacrifices of men from the Gawler South community ((gawler.sa.gov.au).
A.R.C Stonemasonry was commissioned to restore the memorial in time for Anzac Day 2023. The restoration involved hand-carving a replacement arm and rifle that were sympathetic to the original Angaston marble statue, differing from previous repairs that lacked this attention to detail.

The restoration of the Lone Soldier Memorial has successfully returned the statue to its original state, preserving its significance as a tribute to the men of Gawler South who served in World War I. The project showcases A.R.C Stonemasonry's expertise in heritage stonework and commitment to maintaining the integrity of South Australia's built heritage.
